While there are plenty of amazing movies available in different languages, it was difficult for us to list each movie our teammates liked. I’ve curated a list of some of the popular and best suspense movies on Netflix. Let’s begin.

1. Gone Girl

Based on Gillian Flynn’s book by the same name, Gone Girl is a missing person cum murder mystery that rocks a seemingly happy couple’s lives. The narrative will shift continuously, and you are never quite sure of the lead characters or their intent. It’s not just the couple. It seems everyone has their secrets hidden beneath layers of the social fabric we call society. Gone Girl will force you to rethink coupledom and married life where you can be both a victim and perpetrator. Maybe that’s why Amy (the girl who goes missing) says, ‘We’re so cute I want to punch us in the face.’ That sums up her take on their marriage. Watch Gone Girl

2. Fractured

The movie starts with an ordinary day. A couple is traveling when their daughter’s arm gets fractured. They visit a hospital for treatment when his wife and daughter disappear while he is taking a quick nap. No one remembers anything, and there are no hospital records either. Fractured does a good job of keeping your mind busy with thoughts about what happens next. The hospital is a nice setup, something most people will relate to. I mean, its a place no one wants to visit if given a choice and you aren’t always sure whom to believe. Watch Fractured

3. The Invisible Guest

The story is about a perfect night gone wrong. A happy couple in love book a hotel room. The man wakes up the next morning only to find out that his lover is now dead. Next thing is obvious about who gets blamed for the murder. What follows is a cat and mouse game where the man hires a lawyer to protect him from landing in jail. Or, did he really committed the crime? You will love to unravel that mystery. Watch The Invisible Guest

4. Sleepy Hollow

This one is a classic where you will witness Johny Depp at his best, well at least for me. Set in 1799, at the dawn of a new century, Depp is sent to investigate a series of murders where the headless horseman beheads victims. Is it fiction or is there some sensible and logical explanation behind the headless hunter’s sightings? Only one way to find out. The setup is eerie but beautiful, complete with lots of mist, sounds, and shadows to complete the effect. Note that this is a gory movie with several decapitation scenes, blood, and closeups not suitable for kids at all. You, on the other hand, are in for a treat. Watch Sleepy Hollow

5. Forgotten

A guy is kidnapped and mysteriously returns after 19 days. The problem? He is a different man with no memories of what happened in those 19 days. His brother is now not sure what to make of this new person who looks like his brother. Forgotten is the kind of movie which begins after the second half. You will have to wait for the director to create a solid base before upending everything you have seen and understood. Watch Forgotten

6. Zodiac

Based on true events that rocked the city of California from 1960-70, Zodiac is a crime thriller. With a stellar star cast including Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr., Zodiac follows the criminal procedure entangled with media trials. The killer is constantly leaving clues and writing letters, but there is no Sherlock Holmes in this world to quickly wrap it up. The investigation continues for a long time, years in fact, up until the very end of the movie. Zodiac may seem slow at times, but that’s just how crimes are solved in real life. Watch Zodiac

7. Lucid Dream

Lucid Dream will take you down a rabbit hole of wild dreams where after a certain point, it will become difficult to differentiate between reality and dreams. A father spends three years looking for his kidnapped child but to no avail. And so he starts looking for him in his dreams to retrace his steps. If you can’t have enough of Inception, then you will love this movie as it takes a different approach to the dreaming technique. But, equally mind-bending with a complex ending. Watch Lucid Dream

8. Murder Mystery

What happens when you invite Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston to solve a murder mystery? Murder Mystery is a suspenseful comedy. A billionaire is murdered on his yacht, and NYC cop played by Sandler on holiday is all over it. It’s a vacation comedy that’s a light, goofy, and oddly satisfying take on murder mystery movies. There are many suspects too, some of them played by known faces like Gemma Arterton and David Walliams. It’s a movie that you can watch with your family and even invite the kids. Watch Murder Mystery

9. Secret Obsession

A woman wakes up suffering from amnesia with no memories of her past. Her husband is caring for her. But there is something wrong. She fails to love him back, suspecting that he is not her husband. Who is he then and what happened? How did she get in this condition? Secret Obsession has little to offer in terms of action but focuses more on the plot and all the twists that come with it. Get ready to feel your privacy invaded as you follow Jennifer’s story. Watch Secret Obsession

10. The Interview

Do you like grueling and gripping interrogations? The Interview has little action to offer, but the scenes are shot inside a dimly lit room. What begins as an investigation into a stolen car and missing person slowly turns into a hunt for a serial killer. It’s an Australian movie that should have received a wider audience but never did. Fans of The Usual Suspects will love this movie. But, there are more twists as the investigators are no saints either and quickly discover that even they are under investigation. A must watch for those who love watching gritty and suspense movies on Netflix. Watch The Interview

11. Mirage

Mirage is a suspense thriller that follows the story of a young mother. She saves a man’s life in the middle of the thunderstorm, and instead of being rewarded with good karma, a chain of negative events follows. The consequences unfold one after the other as the story continues leading to unexpected twists and turns. Watch for the ending as it will surprise you even more. A true thriller. One of Spain’s finest. Watch Mirage
