Well, let not the excitement sideline your duties towards your new smartphone. Apart from the initial setup, there are a few settings that must be done on any new phone without failure. To help you with it, we’ve rounded up the first five things you should do on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 5.
1. Set Up Second Space
To put it simply, Second Space lets you have two different workspace accounts on the same phone. Once it’s set up, you can have an entirely different set of files, apps, pictures, etc, within the Second Space. The setup is easy and lets you switch between the two accounts seamlessly. Plus, you can easily move pictures and files between the two accounts. So, you can now have a single phone for business and personal usage rolled into one.
2. Customize the Navigation Bar
The Redmi Note 5/5 Pro are one of the first Xiaomi phones in the sub-Rs 18,000 price bracket to sport a navigation bar, thanks to the full view display. However, at times the navigation bar can be an eyesore for some apps. Worry not, this phone comes with the option to hide the navigation bar, so that you can see your favorite app in full glory. Apart from that, if you’re one who loves to have the back button on the right-side, that too can be done. All you have to do is navigate to Additional Settings > Gestures and shortcuts and enable Mirror buttons.
3. Check Out the Intelligent Sleep Mode
Your Redmi Note 5 comes with a very good option to save more battery. Aptly named as Intelligent Sleep Mode, this function uses machine language to learn your sleep timings. Once it has established your routine, it’ll close unused background apps and switch some functions off when you sleep. To activate it, head over to Battery > Manage app’s Battery usage > Scenes and toggle the switch on.
4. Gamer, eh? Set Up Game Booster
To say that MIUI is feature-rich would be an understatement. Considered one of the best Android skins, it has ample functionalities to improve your Android experience. However, there are a few functions that are hidden and one such function is the Game Booster. Available in China ROMs, this mode optimizes the gaming performance by increasing the phone’s CPU usage. In the process, it clears cache and channels the data connection for game optimization. Thankfully, this mode can be easily activated. Of course, you’d need the help of a third-party app called Activity Launcher. This app will display the hidden activities and lets you create a home screen shortcut. So, all you’ve to do is launch the app and navigate to All activity > Security. Once done, scroll down until you locate the option for Game Booster. Long press on it to launch the app directly. That’s it! Now, all you need to do is game away.
5. Turn the Pocket Mode On
Drunk dialing is one thing and pocket dialing is another. While the previous one is usually a rare occurrence (at least for me), the other happens almost regularly, thanks to accidental touches. Luckily, this can be easily fixed and eventually save you from embarrassment. The Redmi Note 5 has two separate pocket modes — one for the camera and the other for the overall phone. All you have to do is navigate to the Lockscreen and password settings > Advanced Setting and enable the Pocket mode option. As you might already have deduced, it’ll prevent unnecessary touch gestures.
All Set Up
So, these were some of the first things that you must do on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. While you are at it, don’t forget to check out the data saver option and the Android device manager as well. Phone maintenance is a continuous process and with time, you’d need to revisit some of the settings or clean up the unnecessary junk files. At the end of the day, you wouldn’t want to use a slow Android, right? The above article may contain affiliate links which help support Guiding Tech.
