The Eye, which has already surpassed its required funding, is an iPhone case which is also an Android device. The Eye is a fully functional Android device on its own and attaching it to the back of your iPhone gives you two of the best Operating Systems in one device — kind of. According to its makers, Esti Inc., a Tel-Aviv-based firm owned by Joseph Savion, the “Eye is a case for your iPhone that adds cool features you never knew you needed.”
Cellular Connectivity and Processor
The higher end variant of the iPhone case-cum-Android device comes with two sim card slots which support 4G sim cards, giving it the ability to work as a standalone device without needing to be connected with the iPhone. The Eye is powered by MediaTek Helio P20 (MT6757) SoC with Mali-T880 MP2 GPU.
Display
The case gets an independent 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display, which is bigger than iPhone 6, 6s and 7’s display and has a better screen resolution too. The display of the Eye is always on, which shows notifications and the date and time — eliminating the need to turn on your iPhone every once in a while and preventing its battery drain.
Storage and Memory
The Eye is powered by 3GB RAM alongwith 16Gb of built-in storage and a microSD slot that can support cards up to 256GB storage. The case is connected to the iPhone via the Lightning slot, which makes transferring files between the Eye and your iPhone easier. You can even back up media files from the iPhone on the case.
Battery and Wireless Charging
The Eye is powered by a 2800mAh battery, which also charges the iPhone’s battery. To those concerned, the manufacturers confirm that the case will not use iPhone’s battery to charge itself. The device also contains a slim tag that supports Qi wireless charging, located beneath the screen. This can be used to wirelessly charge the connected iPhone via home or commercial chargers that support Qi wireless charging.
Borrows Camera from the iPhone
The device doesn’t sport a camera itself, but uses the rear camera of the iPhone and gives you a screen alongside it to click better selfies — like a professional camera. The Eye basically mirrors the camera app screen on its own display. The Eye runs on Android Nougat, sports a 3.5 mm headphone jack, NFC technology, an infrared blaster and a metal tag which can be used to mount your iPhone on car holders. It’s currently available for less if you back them via their Kickstarter campaign. The Eye will be available in two colours — Jet Black and Matter Black — and will come for iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7 and 7 Plus. The manufacturers have also explained how the case is designed to keep both the attached iPhone as well as the display of the Eye safe.
