If you are tired of news apps that irrelevant content, then it’s time to get back to the old and effective way to read RSS feeds. The RSS is the only reliable way to view the content you want instead of handing over the control to a site or dedicated app that publishes news. Once you choose to go back to RSS (or get started with an account), you’ll need a newsreader app to go with it. Thankfully, there are many amazing RSS readers on the iPhone. But how do you find the right one? We’ve narrowed down to the top five choices below.
1. Feedly
Feedly is primarily an RSS service that offers an app and other functions for a better mobile device experience. As for the User Interface, the app feels stuck between the future and the past. It features a nice bottom bar, but it also uses the hamburger menu. Feedly offers three main services to integrate into the app. You can add Pocket, Instapaper, and Evernote accounts for better integration. Using Feedly Pro, you can also use OneNote to save articles and integrate your Twitter feed. On Feedly, you can swipe left/right to switch between articles. If a post has a Read More button, it will use the Safari browser to load the web page. You can use the built-in Read Later service or opt for the app’s integration to save articles. Feedly lets you create different boards to organize the saved articles. You can view it as an advanced Pocket app. Feedly also offers Google Keyword alerts, IFTTT integration, the ability to use notes and highlighter, and more. 2. Reeder 4
I can describe Reeder 4 in one word – minimal. Almost every menu, option, and even buttons are designed to keep the interface as simple as possible. The animations are smooth compared to Feedly, and when you switch from one post to another, it feels like you are swiping the physical pages of the book. Reeder has left no stone unturned when it comes to services. You can connect a range of services such as RSS, Instapaper, Pocket, Feedbin, Feedly, FeedHQ, NewsBlur, Inroreader, and even self-hosted services such as FreshRDD, Reader, Fever, and more. Tap on the + icon and add the account in Reeder 4. In Reeder 4, you can tap on the Reading mode, and it bypasses the Read More button, and you can read the entire article without leaving the interface. 3. Inoreader
Next up on our list of awesome RSS readers is Inoreader. One of the most feature-rich RSS readers on this list, Inoreader, provides users with a vibrant community of content curators. Users can easily discover their next favorite piece of content with Inoreader’s discovery mode, user-generated subscription bundles, or broadcasting channels. The best thing about this app is that it allows you to track news based on specific keyboards. While browsing the web, you can save it to read later if you find anything worth reading. The RSS reader keeps a tab on what you have read. As a result, it shows only the unread items. 4. Fiery Feeds
Similar to Reeder 4, Fiery Feeds adopts iOS design guidelines. The app has a bottom toolbar for quick actions that support smooth animations and navigation gestures. Fiery Feeds will bypass the read more button and load full article text even if the feed is truncated. Plus, you get access to Smart Views that filter out high and low-frequency feeds automatically. Also, this adds to feed management features and downloads the full text for selected feeds offline. My favorite function is the custom theme options. 5. Unread
If you prioritize reading experience above everything else, then go with Unread. The app supports popular RSS services like Feedly, Feedbin, Inoreader, NewsBlur, and Feed Wrangler. Like Reeder and Fiery Feeds, Unread relies on gestures for navigation. When you tap on an article, all you’ll see is text and images. Swipe right to go back and swipe left for options. You can switch to another theme or share the article with another app from there. The free version is limited to 50 unread articles for the day.
