Under the hood, the Vivo Nex hides plenty of software and needless to say, they help complete the circle to achieve perfect pictures. Sounds interesting? Well, let’s check them out!
1. Change Popup Camera Sound
I really like the ‘whirr’ when the selfie shooter pops up. I feel that it gives the perfect finish to this innovative phone. But at the end of the day, no two humans think alike and if you don’t love the default sound, you can have it changed. You can pick from three different sound effects — Sci-fi, Machine, and Rhythm. You will find these three options under Settings > Camera pop-up sound. On second thoughts, the Machine tone isn’t bad either.
2. Monochrome Selfies
As I said above, the pop-up selfie camera hides a ton of features. One of the features that I loved was Monochrome selfies. This cool feature is similar to the color pop feature wherein the background is in monochrome, while retaining the color of the subject. However, it isn’t enabled by default. To turn this feature on, head over to the selfie mode and tap on Take Photo. Tap on the man-shaped icon at the top and select the option for Monochrome selfies. Make sure that you align your face inside the circle, however, do remember that a tight close-up ruins the effect.
3. Refocus Blur in Portrait Mode
When it comes to the portrait mode, the Nex has a couple of tricks up its sleeves. Not only does it let you adjust the background blur in real time, but it also lets you do the same much later after the photo has been taken. Cool, right? And it doesn’t just end there. Once the photo has been taken, you can refocus the blur. Yep, you read that right. So, if you want to make the foreground in sharp focus instead of the background, it’s completely doable. Open the photo in Albums and tap on the button named Portrait bokeh. Simply tap on the area where you want the blur. Drag the slider up as per your choice.
4. Continuous Shooting Mode
The Continuous Shooting mode of the Nex lets you capture a bunch of photos in the blink of an eye. What’s more, you can also choose the best one from the lot and discard the rest. Just tap on the shutter and the rest of the job will be taken care of by the phone. Once done, head off to the Albums app, open the photo and tap on the Select Continuous Shoot button. Now, choose the best one from the lot and tap on the Save Selected button at the bottom-left corner. That’s it.
5. Separate Focus and Exposure Points
Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t that hard to conquer the pro mode of smartphone cameras. Play around the ISO, White Balance, and Shutter Speed and you’ll be rewarded with a minutely-detailed photo. A cool trick of the pro mode is that it lets you separate the focal point and the exposure while you take your shots. This trick not only lets you fine-tune your shots but also helps in a well-composed picture. All you have to do is tap on the camera interface and drag the focus point without lifting your finger.
6. Identify Using Google Lens
Another advantage of the Vivo Nex camera is the Google Lens integration. This cool integration means that you won’t have to open Google Assistant separately if you have to identify an object or a text. All you have to do is tap on the Lens icon at the bottom and focus the camera at the object. What’s more, if the object is commercially available online, Google Lens will display the Buy link and if the object contains text, Lens will identify the text. Pretty neat.
7. Take Photos Quietly
I don’t particularly like the sound of the shutter button. Whichever phone I use, I make it a point to disable the shutter sound. Unfortunately, most phones do not have the option to mute this sound, but thankfully the Nex does. Simply head over to Settings and tap on the option for Sound.
8. Touch, Voice or Palm Selfies?
Undoubtedly the in-display fingerprint sensor has its own level of coolness. You just have to unlock your phone and then the sensor disappears. But (and there’s always a but) the in-display fingerprint sensor also has its own set of issues. For one, you can’t use the sensor to capture selfies. Bummer? Well, we beg to differ. The Nex comes with a cool bunch of alternate options that lets you capture moments without relying on the conventional shutter button. All you have to do is enable the required settings. Once done, you’ll be able to capture selfies either through voice or palm gestures. To do so, go to the settings menu and tap on either one of the given options.

These were some of the cool tips and tricks of the Vivo Nex. Which one did you like the best? If you ask me, the option to refocus the blur is the coolest one.
